One of the oldest forms of
warfare is the “Sword” for centuries Japanese
Warriors have used the art of Sword to slay opponents, Iaido
is “Way of the Sword” combines both physical and
mental focus on the drawing and cutting with a sword. The
practice of this art requires solemn sprit, extreme concentration
and skill, the physical practice of Iaido includes drawing,
parrying and cutting motions before returning the sword to
the scabbard.
Many of the reasons for practising Iaido
are similar to the other Budo forms, though its unique features
make it somewhat different from them. Like other martial arts
there are physical fitness benefits, for example Iaido builds
leg strength and an increase in stamina even though the forms
are done at a slow pace to avoid obvious dangers.
Should you wish to study Iaido at our
Blackburn Martial Arts & Ju-Jitsu School
please feel free to call into the Dojo and discuss your needs
further.
Our Sword classes (iaido) are open to both
experienced members of the arts, and also all individuals,
from any social background who would like to study and learn
the art of Iaido physical fitness is not required however
the student should be capable of some small amount of physical
exertion and be able to concentrate, there are no set age
limits and becoming a student is at the discretion of the
club.
